The purpose of this award is to increase motivation among young researchers contributing to research and development in agriculture, forestry, fisheries and related industries in developing countries, which is promoted by Japan for the benefit of those countries. Young researchers who show outstanding performance and research achievements that lead to future innovation will be commended with the Award.
Research Fields
The Award covers all areas of researches on agriculture, forestry, fisheries and industries, including the food sector for developing countries. Basic research and socioeconomic fields are also covered.
Candidates
Individuals who are engaged in research and development at overseas public or private research institutes or international research institutes for agriculture, forestry and fisheries or universities, are eligible to apply. Candidates should be researchers who are under 40 years old as of January 1 of the year of commendation, who fall under any of the following criteria, and who are able to attend the commendation ceremony including the lecture session by awardees in November 28, 2012.
- Those who have shown outstanding performance in research and development in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, or related industries for a developing country, and who show potential promise.
- Those who have shown outstanding research achievements in research and development in agriculture, forestry, fisheries or related industries for a developing country that will lead to future technological innovation, and who show potential promise.
- Candidates should be non-Japanese researchers who work overseas.
- Non-Japanese researchers who work in Japan shall be excluded because they are eligible for other domestic commendation awards for young researchers living in Japan.
- Those who miss out on the award are eligible to apply for a future award.

Pendaftaran untuk keberangkatan tahun 2013 telah dibuka pada 14 Mei 2012 dan akan ditutup pada tanggal 15 Juni 2012.
Program ini ditujukan untuk siswa-siswi Indonesia lulusan Sekolah Lanjutan Tingkat Atas (SLTA) untuk melanjutkan pendidikan ke Universitas (S-1), College of Technology (D-3) atau Professional Training College (D-2) di Jepang mulai tahun akademik 2013 (April 2013).
Pelamar hanya bisa mendaftar 1 (satu) program dari S-1, D-3, atau D-2.
Undergraduate (S-1)
Masa studi 5 tahun termasuk 1 tahun belajar Bahasa Jepang (kecuali jurusan kedokteran umum, gigi, hewan, dan sebagian farmasi lama masa studi adalah 7 tahun).
Syarat: lulusan SLTA; nilai rata-rata ijazah atau rapor kelas 3 semester terakhir minimal 8,4; lahir antara 2 April 1991 dan 1 April 1996.
Materi ujian tertulis:
- IPS: Bahasa Inggris dan Matematika
- IPA-a: Bahasa Inggris, Matematika, Kimia, dan Fisika
- IPA-b,c: Bahasa Inggris, Matematika, Kimia, dan Biologi
Pilihan jurusan:
- IPS: Laws, Politics, Pedagogy, Sociology, Literature, History, Japanese language, Economics, Business Administration, and others.
- IPA-a: Science (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry); Electric and Electronic Studies (Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Information Engineering); Mechanical Studies (Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture); Civil Engineering and Architecture (Civil Engineering, Architecture, Environmental Engineering); Chemical Studies (Applied Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Textile Engineering); and other fields (Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Maritime Engineering, Biotechnology)
- IPA-b: Agricultural Studies (Agriculture, Agricultural Chemistry, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Forestry, Food Science, Fisheries); Hygienic Studies (Pharmacy, Hygienics, Nursing); Science (Biology)
- IPA-c: Medicine; Dentistry
