PhD Studentships in Human Interface Technology University of Tasmania – The HITLab Australia

The HITLab Australia (HITLab AU) is a specialist human interface technology teaching and research centre developed by the University of Tasmania within the School of Computing and Information Systems. Established in 2008, it partners with the world-renowned HITLab US (http://www.hitl.washington.edu) based at the University of Washington in Seattle and has links with the HITLab NZ (http://www.hitlabnz.org) based at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. We undertake research in a range of areasincluding, interactive surfaces, visualization, mixed reality, tangible interfaces, gaming and augmented reality.

We are now advertising 6 fully funded PhD scholarships in advanced interface technology.

Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to both undertake basic research and be able to build high-quality prototype systems to demonstrate their research, as well as making a strong contribution to the group`s publication activities and industrial research collaborations. PhD candidates should have achieved (or expect to achieve) a first class honours or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a closely related discipline, and have a keen interest in research.

Outstanding students from outside of these disciplines will also be considered for these scholarships if they demonstrate how they can complete each research project within the HITLab whilst enrolled in a different discipline.

Applications from International Students will be considered. Such students may not be eligible for the Elite Scholarships but other sources of scholarship may be offered.

PhD Studentships in Software Engineering, The Lero Graduate School in Software Engineering (LGSSE), Ireland

The Lero Graduate School in Software Engineering (LGSSE), the main education initiative of Lero – the Irish Software Engineering Research Centre, offers a four-year PhD program provided jointly by the four leading Irish Universities involved in Lero (Dublin City University, Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin and University of Limerick). The next LGSSE program cycle begins in September 2010.

The first year includes taught modules in research theory and practice, as well as technical software engineering modules. Also during the first year, the candidate will prepare a research proposal that will be the basis for a three-year individual research project.

In this way LGSSE combines the best features of the European and US models of PhD education.

Master Research Scholarships in Nuclear Engineering and Shipping, Lancaster University, UK

For the second year running the Engineering Department at Lancaster University in the UK is pleased to invite applications from excellent graduate engineers to study for Masters-by research qualifications.

This programme, sponsored by the Sir John Fisher Foundation, provides generous support to the most promising young engineers of their generation to complement their undergraduate degrees with a research-focussed MSc of the highest quality. The programme invites applications for up to four studentships based on engineering research projects in the nuclear engineering and/or shipping fields for a study period of twelve months, full-time. These research studentships are conducted in close collaboration with industry where possible.

To be eligible for consideration you must hold an upper-second degree in an Engineering, Applied Physics, Chemical Engineering or related science-based discipline, or be able to demonstrate significant prior experiential learning in addition to your academic achievements. Industrial experience would be a significant advantage, especially in the industrial sectors of interest as would a demonstrable ability to pursue independent, academic research.

The University of Ballarat is offering a unique opportunity for students undertaking PhD studies in the area of Internet Commerce Security to receive up to A$120k over three years. You will work on real problems and data related to current fraud activity faced by many financial organisations in the world of internet commerce security.

The University of Ballarat, Westpac Banking Corporation and IBM have jointly established the Internet Commerce Security Laboratory (ICSL) to carry out research into eSecurity and cybercrime.

Current research themes include profiling of phishing e-mails and websites, profiling of malware, fraud detection, identity theft and recovery, and forensic imaging techniques.

To be successful in your application, you must have:

2009 Call for Applications for the Ph.D program in Economics.

The Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore offers a 3 year Program of Doctoral Studies in Economics fully accredited worldwide.

The Program, taught entirely in English, provides outstanding training for study and research in the various fields of economics. It has a long and consolidated tradition of post-graduate teaching and research in both theoretical and applied economics. Since its inception, more than one hundred students have successfully completed the Ph.D Program, and many of them are working in leading academic and non-academic, prestigious institutions like the Federal Reserve, the European Commission, the United Nations, the European Central Bank, the Bank of England and the Bank of Italy.

The first year of the Ph.D Program is devoted mainly to advanced course work in mathematics for economics, microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics and a considerable number of frontier state-of-the-art research topics. Full time research is pursued over the following two (or exceptionally three) years, during which each student must write his or her thesis.
