PhD Scholarships in Water Engineering, Technical University of Denmark

A PhD scholarship is available in urban water engineering at DTU Environment. The project, Cities in Water Balance (Byer i Vandbalance, www.biv.dk), is an innovation consortium consisting of DTU, DHI, The University of Copenhagen, Technological Institute, GEUS, Per Aarsleff A/S, Wavin A/S, Orbicon A/S, Municipality of Copenhagen, Municipality of Aarhus, Municipality of Odense, Copenhagen Energy, Aarhus Water, VCS Denmark, and Avedøre Wastewater Services.

The consortium aims to develop models for the simulation, analysis and design of infiltration trenches for the infiltration and management of storm water in cities. The models will be tested by comparison with experimental data collected in pilot projects developed with the partners.

The position will be available from 1 May 2011. The scholarship is funded by The Danish Research Council and DTU.

Qualifications

• A master’s degree in engineering, physics or applied mathematics
• A candidate with a strong background in environmental engineering, hydraulics soil physics or groundwater will be preferred
• A strong commitment to research
• Independence and good communication skills

Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in modelling. The position offers an opportunity to work on an international, dynamic, multi-disciplinary project.

Approval and Enrolment
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the DTU PhD Guide.

Salary and appointment terms
The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. The period of employment is 3 years.
