Traffic Light Detection on a Mobile Phone for Pedestrians with Visual Impairment
Within a scope of a diploma thesis for the University of Münster a mobile application for traffic light detection was developed. This video demonstrates its use and reliability.

The World of Sights in Your Pocket Web 2.0 applications are a rich source of multimedia resources, that describe sights, events, whether conditions, traffic situations and other relevant objects along the user's route. Compared to static sight descriptions, Web 2.0 resources can provide up-to-date visual information, which has been found important or interesting by the other users. Some algorithms have been suggested recently for the landmark finding problem from photos. Still, if users want related videos or background information about a particular place of interest it is necessary to contact different social platforms or general search engines. In this paper we present GuideMe! - a mobile application that automatically identifies landmark tags from Flickr groups and gathers relevant sightseeing resources from various Web 2.0 social platforms.

Qualcomm is supporting peer-to-peer software solutions in its chipsets using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies, which will allow different devices to talk to each other. TAI Anka MALE UAV Turkish Medium Altitude Long Endurance UAV. The Anka UAV, which has a 17.3-meter wingspan, is eight meters long and has a maximum payload of 200 kilograms, will make its maiden flight in October and reach initial operating capability with the Turkish Air Force in September before reaching full operating capability in December 2012, TAI said at the Farnborough Air Show. TAI sister company Aselsan is supplying the UAV's EO/IR pod and SAR/GMTI radar, while TAI is providing a ground control station, a mobile set-up for exploiting imagery and remote visual terminals supplying real-time imagery to ground troops. The Anka will have automatic take-off and landing and autonomous flight capabilities, as well as retractable landing gear, a heavy fuel engine, line-of-sight navigation with a range of 200 kilometers and deicing capability. "There is a high interest in this UAV from export customers and we are prepared to invite them to join the program at observation or associate level," said TAI CEO Muharrem Dortkasli.

Exclusive: BlackBerry Funds Viewdle -- Visual Recognition for Video to Launch Soon on Mobile Viewdle, the visual recognition software company with origins in the Soviet military, has received a venture round from the RIM's BlackBerry Fund, says John Albright, co-managing partner in this exclusive interview with Beet.TV. The company is headquartered in San Jose with engineering operations in Kiev. It launched in 2007 and has recently gone into stealth mode. It will launch visual recognition for videos on mobile devices and the desktop next year. The "B" round involves the BlackBerry Fund and other corporate investors, Laurent Gil, CEO, told me on a phone call last night where I reached him in Paris. Gil declined to name the other investors or provide the size of round which closed recently. The investment has not been previously disclosed. He said that the technology would be available to many operating systems which could include RIM. Earlier this week in at the paidContent Mobile conference at Columbia University, I interviewed Albright, about the investment and the emergence of "augmented reality" and visual computing. He notes that while forms of this technology is used by various military and intelligence organizations, it is not available to the public. In this video interview, he says the company's products will be broadly introduced next year.
